Shegufta is a recent graduate in political science and Spanish with a specific interest in global human rights and social justice. She's passionate about uplifting marginalized communities by advocating for inclusivity and equity through all of her platforms. She served as the Vice President of the University Senate, President of the Muslim Student Association, an Ambassador in the University Honors Program, and participated in the founding of the KU & Haskell Women of Color Collective. In 2016-2017, Shegufta worked as a Social Justice Educator for the Office of Multicultural Affairs and as the first Peer Outreach Advisor for Fellowships & Scholarships. 

Shegufta's portrait comes from the KU Women of Distinction calendar, which recognized Shegufta in 2016 for her contributions to the KU community. 

In November 2016, Shegufta became KU's 27th Rhodes Scholar. Congratulations, Shegufta!
